Yule (the winter solstice) arrives this weekend, and those of us who dwell in the northern hemisphere will be turning toward the light again. Mike Taylor wrote a great essay about God, recent news, and judgment. I recommend it. Here is an excerpt from his essay "Our God is a consuming fire"

"Our minds cannot comprehend the vastness, the power, the might of Almighty God. We have scriptures in Revelation that John the beloved, tried to describe what he saw and they are partially revealing of the power of God, but I believe to express fully the power of God in all His glory is beyond the scope of mortal man. There are not enough words or adjectives that give enough information of what, and who we serve and the awesomeness of our God.... Was this the judgment passed on the people of Japan or in other countries where the human toll was great? I don't even begin to understand the ways of God and what His judgments are and who will be affected. Because I am reminded of the apostles when they came to Jesus and asked the same type of question that many wonder with all these disasters. It's found in Luke--

"Luke 13:1-3 "at the same time there were present some who told him (Jesus) of the Galileans whose blood Pilate mingled with [that of] their sacrifices. And he answering said to them, Think ye that these Galileans were sinners beyond all the Galileans because they suffered such things? No, I say to you, but if ye repent not, ye shall all perish in the same manner."

"Sin is in this world and all will perish unless they are forgiven of their sins against God. It is not only individual judgment on a particular people, but the whole of humanity that will perish apart from forgiveness of the sinful condition that is rampant on this earth, especially in these latter days of man's existence. We can't point to anyone event or disaster and say that it is God's judgment, as that is left to God, but we can see what is happening all around us, and know that God's judgment is close at hand and we will see even more as the days grow darker and more evil."

The time is growing short, but the news is so dire, it saddens all of us. I am asked quite often, how do I stay so cheerful? Optimistic? It takes work.

"You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world." 1 John 4:4

How does one "overcome"? You persevere. "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord." (1 Corinthians 15:58)

Perseverance leads to endurance-- "If we endure, we will also reign with Him; If we deny Him, He also will deny us;" (2 Timothy 2:12)

Endurance leads to overcoming-- "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)

Like any race you put one foot in front of the other, every day. Just never stop moving. Here is the practical application of how I do that:

I pray, read the Word, and listen to hymns, the ones that have the real verses in them. As for praying, I do all kinds. I do it every day at all times. Quick prayers, short conversations. A comment. Other times during the day I engage in intentional, deep prayer that is a humble, a spiritual communion with the Lord. The point is, the communication with Him is constant and doesn't have to be in a special kind of theological language. He is God, but He is my friend, too. Fellowship with Him through prayer is the way to keep in touch and remain open to His communication back to me. It calms me to talk with Him, and it gives me peace and strength.

Reading the Word is the other way to remain in constant communication and fellowship with Him. Doing this gives me a center point. When I begin reading a peace washes over me. The peace turns to joy and usually tears as I re-read the promises He has made, or the nature and attributes He demonstrates in his Word.

I sing. Praise music leaves me just as hungry as when I began singing but I get full of the Word with the traditional hymns such as The Old Rugged Cross, Shall We Gather At the River, Glory to His Name, etc. I turn on Pandora online. You get 40 free hours per month, and it streams your favorite music. You can hone and refine the music by clicking 'like' or dislike;' to a particular song. It will re-add or delete songs with those attributes so that the music list lengthens increasingly with only songs you enjoy. I particularly enjoy the Gaither Vocal band, with many traditional quartets. Even if I am doing dishes or another task that takes my mind away from intently concentrating on the words, the background noise in my home is reverential, joyous, and appropriate. This also puts me in good frame of mind. These days I need all the tips I can employ to keep steadfast and serene. If I have too much clamor in my heart, I can't hear Him.

As for the negative tips, here is what I do. Sins begin with a thought (Mt 15:19). Footholds and fortresses begin with a thought (2 Corinthians 10:3-5). When a thought comes creeping in, such a "Maybe you aren't really saved after all, or "Maybe you will be left behind" or "Maybe the rapture isn't really pre-trib like you thought" I shut them out immediately. I mean immediately. I don't dwell on them. I don't share them with others. I don't obsess over them. I don't muse over them in my journal. I knock them out of the ballpark right away, and I don't watch them go. Satan will try to steal your joy by confusing you and weakening you. The way he does this is by planting seeds of doubt. When you are dragging around doubt it is the same as dragging around a ball and chain. Add another ball to the chain every time you let a non-biblical thought linger. Pretty soon you are so tired from dragging the doubt-chain behind you that you don't walk any more. Not walking with the Lord means that you stop persevering. You stop enduring. You stop overcoming.

It is work to remain joyful and optimistic in days such as these. It's work. It doesn't come naturally, because though we are saved, we have a sin nature and by nature, sin is negative. It is work to remain walking with Him when the days are filled up with just surviving. We are working harder, we are working longer hours, knowing that there are so many out of work that we are eminently replaceable. We are tired. It gets easier to lay aside the bible, it gets harder to sing His praises when there is so much happening that we do not understand. But as any athlete knows, this is precisely the time to keep doing what we have always done, pray, walk, sing, study...because it is precisely now that we need it more than ever. And most importantly, the lost need us. As one famous advertisement says, not advertising is like winking in the dark. You know what you are doing, but no one else does. Everyone should know Jesus, and if we work at our relationship with Him we will shine brighter than ever, pointing to Him. "And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself." (John 12:32)

So be of good courage, and persevere.

THE VERY HEART OF THE MATTER TODAY is the radical conflict between atheistic or pantheistic scientists and Biblical Christianity.

One only has to examine the leading edges in genetics, obstetrics, astronomy and the 'new physics' to see that there is an all out war on the teachings of Scripture which will soon come to a head. There can be no doubt whatsoever that the true Church -- that is, genuine believers, clinging to the Cross, worshiping God, extolling Christ, preaching the Word, and eschewing the corruptions of the world -- will be utterly marginalized by all this UFO bunkum and the other discoveries which will shortly come to light; and our churches will be ridiculed as dangerous sects which refuse to cooperate with these 'beneficial' discoveries of our times.

It should also come as no surprise that the world's media was so obliging in this circus, with headlines such as "'Life on Mars -- Official'" (Daily Mirror, 7/8/96), or 'I"n the Beginning, did God Create Aliens?" (Times, 8/8/96), or "'If the Aliens do Decide to Call, We're Listening'" (Times, 12/8/96).

The bulk of the media across the world today is controlled by a few huge conglomerates which are essentially lackeys of the New World Order. So NASA's little finger twitches about micro-organisms and we have banner headlines four inches tall: LIFE ON MARS! -- and an article in the Times (12/8/96) states,"Once dogged by the crackpot image, the search for alien life has become credible".

It is extraordinary how the world will reject the Christian Gospel as a childish myth, but yet it is so ready to accept a scientistic fable about fossils from Mars!

MODERN DARWINISM

Surely, the primary reason so many people avidly lap up this garbage is because they know inwardly that, if true, it would utterly undermine the veracity of the Bible and the theological foundations of Judeo-Christianity.

The National Aeronautical and Space Administration is hoping to achieve what Darwinism has been unable to do during a whole century of frantic propaganda.

Back in 1974, NASA engineer Joseph Blumrich wove similar conjectural fantasies in his book, "'The Spaceships of Ezekiel'" (Bantam). The space research community, along with covert organizations such as the Central Intelligence Agency, are riddled with people who have a New Age/occult worldview and for whom the 'discovery' of extra-terrestrial life would be the fulfillment of a dream.

Some readers may think all this is just the crazy ramblings of an overactive imagination. But these attempts of the demonic realm to cause havoc through deception and infiltration are confirmed in the Scriptures (Gen.6:2; Rev.12:17; Eph.6:12; 1 Pet.5:8).

Nearly twenty years ago, some discerning Christian authors had also realized the demonic nature of UFO's and ET's. In his commendatory preface to an excellent book on the subject, Dr. R.J. Rushdoony stated:

"Now more than ever before in history, we are in the midst of religious warfare. Although it comes in various disguises in order to conceal the fact of war, a wide variety of cults and all forms of humanism are at war with Biblical faith. We cannot begin to understand the world of our time apart from the fact of religious warfare... The authors conclude that the UFO phenomena are real; they are demonic and they are totally anti-Christian... The UFO mythology is a radical denial of God and of Scripture. We are given an alien view of man and the universe, and we find also that those who give themselves to this view and to the occult manifestations are marked by a disintegration of mind and even of body. Clearly UFO's are not a harmless concern nor merely an amusing case of superstition".

ADVANCED ALIENS

Frankly, there is no place for 'highly evolved ET's' in this universe. The concept of 'advanced aliens' arriving on this planet to lead us into the next phase of human civilization is incompatible with Bible teaching on the future course of history. Such beings could not be the unfallen angels, for they would never promote false doctrine. The idea of 'advanced aliens' rescuing the human race is also radically at odds with Bible teaching on creation and redemption. The Fall of our first parents not only brought corruption to the life of planet Earth but also to the entire universe (Rom.8:19-22).

The atonement and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ are the central events in the history of the cosmos, the transformation of which is not dependent on an invasion of 'god-like' aliens but on the eschatological glorification of believers (Rom.8:21). Our hope for a perfect civilization does not lie in this world but in the world to come (2 Pet.3:13). The new universe will not be ushered in by a weird breed of beings from outer space which are never mentioned in the Bible, but by the creative power of the Triune God of Scripture (Isa.65:17).

Finally, let us remember that although God's people have nothing to fear from all this, it is important to be informed. Discerning Christians will keep a watchful eye on future events, as the build-up to the 'Big Announcement' develops. If the claims that we have made in this paper are for real, then the world has surely entered Satan's 'little season' and the closing phase of this evil age will soon be upon us.

Ultimately, these desperate tactics of the demonic realm are tremendously affirming to our faith because they provide confirmation of so much Bible prophecy!

Rest assured that all authority in heaven and on earth belongs solely to the Lord Jesus Christ, whose return to the earth to bring judgement, gather His people, and transform this fallen world is the event towards which everything has been inexorably moving since the beginning of history.

Hi Henry, I have researched for years pictures of Mars and the moon, and everything related to space travel. My personal conclusion is that this is a great scientific fraud. My assessment is that man never went to space and no satellites orbiting the earth. Super Bongese Radio To The Jungles

Praying friends and supporters of the work in Liberia, I wanted to give you a brief update on what is happening with the work in the jungles of West Africa.

The Lord continues to bless the two mission works we were able to start as does the third church plant that was started by the national pastors in an interior village. We are excited to continue hearing of baptisms, of sins being confessed and repented of, and of marriages taking place where people were just living together before.

Many of you know my heart is in teaching and that this is one aspect of the work that I have missed since having to return to the USA due to my health.

While two or three have asked about the possibility of further ministry, the question remained of how we could be involved - that is, until now.

I have been in contact with a brand new community radio station that covers all 12 districts of Bong County where we lived and worked. They have just obtained a 1000 watt transmitter that is reaching out not just to Bong County, but in some of the surrounding counties and even over the border into the country of Guinea.

They have offered me an opportunity to produce teaching and preaching material on the radio in 30 minute increments. One of these would be early morning and late afternoon. This would be one day a week for a total of 4 hours per month reaching the jungle where there is NO Christian radio. The cost per month would be 250.

We already have been provided with the digital equipment and the software needed to make these recordings available to the station which is called Super Bongese FM.

THE STATION HAS THE ABILITY TO REACH CLOSE TO 500,000 PEOPLE. AT PRESENT, NO OTHER CHURCHES OR RELIGIOUS GROUPS HAVE APPROACHED THE STATION TO BROADCAST THEIR TEACHING.
