I've been mistaken for Jesus apparently. Since I claim to be Christian and talk the talk, sometimes I stumble with walking the walk. In almost each post and in my book, I point out that I am still a work in progress. I'm not perfect...I'm human. I can only try to be "Christ-like", but if you really think about it, can we really be perfect like Christ? Can we follow His example to perfection? Or can we just learn as we go? I share my thoughts and what I think are the best ideas, but yet, again, I'm human. I'm not Jesus....WWJD? Well, I can try, but it's going to be very hard.

Keep alert and pray. Otherwise temptation will overpower you. For though the spirit is willing enough, the body is weak. ~Matthew 26:41

Temptation can encompass many aspects of life's desires and actions. When we're tempted to do something less than "Christ-like", it's our body that's at fault - our physical being here on earth and not our spirit. Our physical being vs. our spiritual side are at constant war with one another. We all have this conflict and can look back on something we did in the past and say, "Why'd I do that?" It's normal.

God's weakness is far stronger than the greatest of human strength. ~1 Corinthians 1:25

We're all "weak". It's not such a bad word as it seems. To me, the word "weak" means to be human. Even if we're as strong as a rock, we're weak in our physical shell. We all make mistakes and we all do things that we normally say we wouldn't. It's called being human. If we constantly seek guidance from God and read His word daily, we can try to be a better person...but not equal to Jesus Himself. People normally judge us by our actions and words. But what if our words don't quite correlate with our actions? We're seen as a "hypocrite". The excuse of being "human" is plain b.s. to them. I can talk about God and yet be crude as the next guy. I can say I'm a Christian, yet turn around and curse someone out of anger. I can try to follow the example of Jesus, yet I just. fall. short.

Even though I fall short of being a Christian, I never give up. Each day our spirit is renewed. We can start over. As the scripture says, our troubles today are temporary and won't last very long. Sometimes I get into this state of mind where I doubt everything. I ask why why why" and hope that God will answer me right away. While praying about something that was troubling me, and after numerous days of waiting for God's answer, He pointed out a story written in "The Word for You Today" - a magazine the church hands out. Now, I must tell you that I absolutely detest parables of any sort, even though that's one of the biggest ways Jesus spoke to us, this one really spoke to me. I wanted to share it with you and see if it speaks to you as well. Read between the lines...see if it applies to your life.

I believe that there is power in names; knowing someone's real name gives certain advantages to the person who has the information, and I will go as far as to say that the right appellation can contribute to a person's, thing's, city's, plant's... charm.

Terry Pratchett does an amazing job when naming his witches and his books. Think Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, Tiffany Aching, Greebo, "Equal Rites, Carpe Jugulum"... the man is brilliant. I would never compare myself to my Knight Writer, but I do take my time when choosing names for my characters. How many of you thought about Belladonna Wisely after you read the last sentence?

I'm working on the first draft of a novel currently titled SCARRED. A writer friend critiqued one of the chapters and said, "The name of your heroine speaks of power, mystery, tenderness and no nonsense. I hate you because you always come up with great names, w(b)itch!"

ALMA MIA CIENFUEGOS - In Spanish, the name of my main female character means 'my soul one-hundred-fires', and my luvs, that is exactly who Alma Mia Cienfuegos is. She is affected by life and reactive to its dealings. She is a Witch of her times. She is her own most important person. And those who touch her life will receive warmth or flames, depending on their intentions.

ALEXANDER PARKER - SCARRED's main male character has a less descriptive name, unless you are a Spider-Man fan, and appreciate the brains, talent, and courage of Peter Parker. No, he isn't a superhero in the web-shooting-tights-wearing sense. His power to defend and protect is very human, and it comes directly from a heart that is so big that it barely fits in his sexy chest. He'll need all that goodness, and then some, to penetrate the shields Alma Mia has placed around her witchy heart.

JULIAN VAN DYKE - This man is one of the reasons why Alma Mia had to shield herself from the rest of the world. He is intelligent, good looking, abusive (even if doesn't see it), and absolutely full of himself. His name is a combination of Julian Brashir and a guy with the last name Van Dyke, who has caused enough pain in this life to make me really dislike him all the way until the next.

You'll meet many characters with descriptive names in SCARRED: SOLEDAD, ATTILA, MARISOL, ASIA BLACK, MANDINGO... but you'll have to wait until you read the novel (After I, um... publish it) to learn why their names feel so fitting to me.

Is it the fresh breath of cool air you breathe when you first wake that only later becomes the delicious heat that beckons you to lake and seaside? Or could it be the scent of grass and grain slowly toasting in the summer's heat, making you think of autumn fires and warm bread? Even in the midst of summer's reign we know autumn looms. It seems so unlikely, and yet July 31, come sundown, begins the first of the harvest festivals. Lughnasad (or Lammas, Luanys, Gwl Awst, or Goel Est) is traditionally known as the grain harvest, yet within we can also celebrate the first fruits: sparkling berries, luscious tomatoes, sweet squash, daylily buds, baby potatoes, and even early corn in some places. As the fruits of our Earth are harvested so too do I look back on what I have sown earlier in the year. What plans, sown at Ostara, are coming to fruition this season? Will your needs and wants be fed with this harvest, or will you need to work for another season, and find your dreams fulfilled at Mabon? Or will your gestation be longer, coming at the year's turning at Samhain? Regardless how long your growing season takes, don't give up on your dreams. The ones we are truly meant to realize often take the longest (as I remind myself every time I work on the novel that has now taken upwards of seven years to complete), but when they come to completion, we are that much more appreciative of what we have been given, of what we have accomplished. Tend to your dreams: water them with care, and pull up the weeds of self-doubt that sprout. This is the time of plenty. Allow yourself to be satiated. Give thanks to the Corn Mother, Tailtiu and Demeter, for through Their grace we have been given plenty. Nisaba, Habdonia, Astarte and Sif, all goddesses of grain and plenty, smile on us this season. Llugh, the Sun God who gives the Mother light to grow crops, continues to shine His light, warming fields of crops and of inspiration. Lughnasad hovers on the horizon. This is the time of year my kitchen is given a thorough cleaning: the refrigerator is emptied and scrubbed, the (very tiny!) pantry emptied, organized and consecrated to the Sumerian Nisaba, the goddess of grain, storage and writing; the shelves over the stove and counter are cleared and dusted. The oven is cleaned, the stovetop polished, and a fresh candle placed behind the burners in honor of Hestia. She asks nothing of Her children, She sets no challenges for us, only gives freely: warmth, light, the means to feed and be fed.
