Suggestion Playable Naga

A BRIEF INTRODUCTION : READ BEFORE VOTING.

Before we delve deeper into the suggestion we have to take a step back and have a brief overview of the Naga race. The naga race appeared in Warcraft3 as un unplayable race, they had pretty much everything a playable race had : from workers and basic buildings to high tier units and even upgrades. The Naga were the loyal followers of Queen Azshara, twisted and mutated into their current form when Queen Azshara quickly made a pact with the old god Nzoth, when her capital sank deep beneath the ocean. The naga were brooding under the ocean for 10k years now, and have only resurfaced after the third war in alarming numbers.

Each warcraft playable race has their own theme and backstory, some were well-established like Blood Elves and some were heavily retconned to their current state (Draenei, Worgen) and some just appeared out of nowhere (Pandaren, though they were a hero-race in W3 they looked more like an easter-egg/extra flavor rather than a serious thing)

Now, the Naga have a lot of potential to become a playable race. and if you delve into their lore you realize that Blizzard can easily make them playable without having to do a lot of brainstorming. They have unique, untapped theme that is not used by any other race and it makes them a great candidate for a future playable race.

Racial mount? Check.

Racial flying mount? Check.

Unique Theme and racial language? Check and Check.

Well established lore and place in warcraft universe? Check.

WHAT CAN THEY BRING TO THE TABLE :

No-one knows the sea better than a Naga, if a sea-based expansion ever comes out the Naga can be valuable assets. Alliance and Horde both made few underwater adventures, take Vash'jir for example, and lore-wise they ended in disaster because surface dwellers are just not built for the challenges of the world below. The Naga are very formidable in their natural habitat and bear in mind that it's gonna take more than just Gnomish technology and Earthen Ring's elemental magic to beat them in their capital city of Nazjatar.

ISSUES SORROUNDING PLAYABLE NAGA AND HOW TO FIX IT :

But the Naga face one serious issue : They're not bipedal. It's gonna cause a few problems most notable of them is mounting, now many players threw around suggestions and while the issue of armor can be easily solved none of the suggestions regarding mounting appears to be a viable fix. (atleast none that I've seen)

So...why not make the playable Naga bipedal? The idea may sound far fetched to some people and many consider Naga's lack of legs as their iconic trait to the point that they may not feel comfortable playing just another bipedal race. but consider this : the playable Naga are clearly not aligned with Azshara and old gods right? So, the very same hand that gave them their power can take it away when it wills it.

But... should we turn them into 100% bipedal creatures? no, if anyone has seen a few mermaid movies/stories they're familiar with the concept of mermaids developing legs on land...and shapeshift into their true form either at will or when exposed to water. it can be integrated into the Naga race as a racial shapeshift ability similar to Worgen, except it won't be "purely cosmetic", more detail in the racial section.

HOW CAN THAT BE INTEGRATED INTO WOW?

The Naga on this suggestion are renegades of the Naga faction, banded together and under the leadership of a Naga "King" who was a major military commander of Azshara's armies (still have to come up with a good name, as for appearance imagine a cross between posseidon and Pirates of Carribeans' davy jones). Azshara, furious over their betrayal, devises a plan to get rid of the renegades for good : she unearths an ancient titan artifact deep beneath the ocean, and combines her knowledge of their curse and the titan technology to devise a plan to revert the Naga transformation of the renegades.

The capital of the renegades is besieged and in the heat of battle the renegades send a desperate strike force to destroy the device before it can fully power up, while the battle is still commencing the device is activated prematurely as the result of the sabotage. The device causes "partial" transformation of all the nagas who were within the range of the device, Azshara herself gets only weakened by the blast but half of her strike force, along with most of the renegades, turn into a cross between night elves and Naga.

The renegades, still outnumbered by Azshara's naga, escape to surface and attempt to make contact with surface factions.

Azshara then realizes that she's been given a serendipity : by sabotaging her device the renegades have accidentally created a very formidable army for Azshara, an army of Naga crossbreeds that can perform well both underwater and on the surface. Thus, Azshara sends in the mutated section of her army to the surface to try to hunt the renegades down and establish strong outposts on surface. This action, along with a couple of other provoking behaviours, gives both Alliance and Horde enough reason to invade the south seas.

RACE DESCRIPTION :

FACTION : ALLIANCE.

Racial Mount : Snap Dragons, these beasts were part of the Naga units in Warcraft 3 but are surprisingly absent in WoW.

Spoken Language : Common, Nazja

Appearance :

The bipedal Naga are not very different than normal Naga except that they are well...bipedal, plus their females only have ONE pair of hands as result of their transformation. I'm still looking to find a good name for them but for now I'll just refer to them as renegades.

Females : Standing straight, naga females are slim, tall and appear very feminine, female naga in Warcraft have kept a lot of their "elven" features... so it shouldn't be much different when they've turned bipedal.

As for head, the current female naga have... problematic heads especially if they want to become playable. The fin is just too big and it stretches from the back of their head to their lower body. It makes it clip with many gear pieces. So it would make sense if, for the sake of gameplay, female renegades lose most of this fin and only have it in place of ears or other parts of their head.

Naga females, as is customary with all WoW races, should also have have some sort of hair, in shape of "spikes" like SC2's Kerrigan.

This image was posted in MMO-Champ by professor mathias a while back.Males : Now naga males are more muscular and have more reptilian features similar to the saurok, I don't know why but Blizzard has taken this approach and playable naga also should stay true to this formula. Male renegades are muscular, serpentish, haunched and appear more savage and rough looking as opposed to the graceful appearance of females.

CLASS SECTION :

Nagas should be quite flexible in their choice of class, they're strong, sneaky, and clever at the same time and have shown to have good knowledge of taming beasts, enslaving elementals and using their natural habitat to their advantage. they're also descendants of highborne which makes them formidable mages.

Classes : Warrior, Death Knight, Shaman, Hunter, Monk, Druid, Rogue, Priest, Mage

* Death Knight : Renegade Death Knights are a possibility, These renegades were origionally Naga who were captured and turned into Death Knights by the scourge, the Lich King managed to remove some of the old god's influence from the Naga to make them more obedient and useful, which resulted in a partial reversion into their original Night Elf form. They're not exactly renegades and they may even look slightly different in lore, But they share the same model with the renegades in game for gameplay purposes.

* Shaman : Now we know that Azshara hates Neptulon's guts and her Naga are trying to enslave the elementals to their will. As creatures of the sea it would be very important to them to be able to communicate and take control of the elements that dwell under the sea. Renegade shamans are a sect of Azshara's shamans who saw the error of their ways and instead of trying to enslave the elements they have tried to communicate with them and have to come to respect them. They broke away from Azshara and use the elements to aid the renegades in their fight against Azshara.

RENEGADE SHAMANS USE TOTEMS MADE OUT OF CORALS AND SEASHELLS.

* Monk: Renegade monks are not exactly an old class but rather a new one. Renegade monks have no martial art background prior to their life on the surface but are taught the ways of monks when they start the game. Just like how other non-pandaren races become monks : from traveling monks who have agreed to teach others the powers of chi.

* Druid: A rather cool class to have especially for Naga, Naga druids can be unique and exotic because unlike previous Druids their art can be unique and underwater themed, an aqua-themed druid is a fresh change from the traditional druid theme imo. Naga druids are those naga who have chosen to live in harmony with the wildlife of the underwater world.

Bear Form : a giant bear with visual characteristics of sea creatures. (eel head, scales, etc.)

Cat Form : a cat with visual characteristics of sea creatures, they can be a cross between lions and komodo dragons.

Moonkin form : a creature with similar stature to moonkin but with fins on legs, arms and around the head instead of feathers. Their head resembles a saurok more than a bird, as a result the creature lacks the iconic moonkin beak and instead possesses a serpentish mouth.

Travel Form : Same with NE Travel Form.

STARTING ZONE LAYOUT : The starting zone is a rocky coastline stretching from north of Stormwind to the west of dun morogh, there used to be an area on the pre-cataclysm maps, after the cataclysm blizzard intended this area to be the entrance to deepholme but the idea got scrapped.

The appearance of the zone is somewhat similar to the storm coast of DA:I, a rocky coastline with thunderstorms and rains and a dense fog. The area is covered by a dense forest in the middle, east and north east and there's a pirate bay in the remote north of the zone.

RACIALS :

Shapeshift : The renegades can shapeshift into their origional Naga form after doing a series of quests in the starting zones.

Shapeshift removes the movement penalty of swimming and allows the PC to swim accross water with the same speed as running. it also removes the breath penalty and allows underwater breathing. Shapeshift slows movement by 30% on surface. Players cannot mount while in shapeshift form and have to return to their bipedal form to do so. But unlike the worgen shapeshift, renegades CAN fight while in Naga form.

This way players who prefer to play as leg-less Naga will also be satisfied.

QUEST FLOW AND PROGRESSION : WIP

The story of your PC is quite different compared to other races: while PCs of other races are considered "zeroes" and inexperienced characters who are rising to becoming a great hero, you character WAS a Naga champion and among the elite soldiers who participated in the sabotage of Azshara's device. But your character still starts the game as a level 1.

Your PC is washed ashore somewhere along the coastline, with no memory of who they are or how they got there. Struck with amnesia, you befriend the local humans of that area and, upon finding more of your kin you aid them against the Naga forces that are pursuing them. During the 1-10 quest zone you recover artifacts that cause some of the memory to return, and you get to visit youou r past life as a level 100 elite Naga. You witness how you fought and saved a lot of your kin, and what led to your memory loss.

the theme of these "memory flash backs" are similar to the battlemaiden questline in Vash'jir where you experience the world as a kickass naga battlemaiden. you possess power abilities that lets you overcome challenges with ease and throughout the quest zone you realize that the renegades regard you highly despite you having no memory of who you were.

In the end your kin warn humans of a Naga invasion and help the humans lift a Naga siege on Stormwind. And you're accepted into the alliance when you've proven yourself as a valuable ally.

I'm still working on the details of the quests + the zone map.

Book Reviews Review The Signs And Symbols Sourcebook

Hi! Sorry if I'm not writing enough/being detailed enough. This is my first review. And this book isn't strictly witchcraft, but it seems suspiciously Pagan-centric. Just to give a little background information, the author is Adele Nozedar, who belongs to The Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids.

REMINDER: This is my opinion.

Overall Rating: 2.5 stars out of 5

Positive: It's very extensive with many symbols and signs as it promises, with little bias against other religions. Almost and maybe all the religions I know of are at least mentioned and elaborated upon. The documented meaning of each sign makes sense for the most part. I like the herbal/vegetation correspondences in the beginning and the simple symbols. Honestly I don't like that much about this book because the negatives ruined it for me.

Negative: There is inaccurate information (ex. "Hecate is the Queen of the Underworld" Called the Domovoi deities.) and in the deity section, only a few Slavic/Norse/Hindu/Egyptian deities are mentioned. The only mentioned Japanese deity is Amaterasu. Some very important Greek deities (yes, I'm biased on this one) are mentioned, but never expanded upon. Hades, Dionysus, Hestia, and Pan are among these. Roman names are used interchangeably, which is kind of annoying. The illustrations look like clip art and sometimes the same symbol is shown multiple times in different styles. Some symbols are not illustrated at all. Consistency is a major issue, and the language used is a bit... unprofessional. (ex. "The Capricorn sigil is an unusual squiggle sexy foodstuff")

Summary: Mostly helpful at the beginning, but inaccurate and inconsistent as it wears on. A bit silly. I wouldn't recommend it at all, but I also wouldn't say 'don't buy it.'

(counting from that day in April that Cortez set foot on Veracruz). August 16
is "one-reed, one-reed," the first day of the first of thirteen cycles called

at another of Shared Vision's Earth Mysteries series, June 18 Thursday, 8 pm

However, Arguelles vision is based on the assumption that the acceleration
of communication, particularly by electronic means, leads to a fuller and
more intimate communication. This is, apparently, based on the assumption
that an increase in knowledge results from the faster exchange of words and
thought. I question this. I think the case could be made that the more bits
of information that a person has to assimilate more quickly, the dumber they
get; at least their stress level rises, their memory begins to develop holes,
and non-thought-related input, such as intuition or body-sense, may be more
likely ignored.

What if we don't subject Arguelles vision to an analysis of scientific vigor,
and accept it as it intended to be, i believe, poetic truth. Thern the question
is whether it makes sense to believe that blanket communications can give space
to synchronization and over time it can lead telepathic synchronicity.

As for as the Galactic Federation, I dunno, but it's very plausible to me
to imagine that when synchronization happens there will be a leap in
planetary consciousness that well can open gateways to unknown dimensions
of galactic existence.

I get there? huh?

I didn't think I was subjecting Arguelles' vision to an analysis of scientific
vigor; since it was based on my own experience of the last three years with
computers/teleconferencing and such, it was more based on an analysis of
gut-level vigor. Be that as it may, Arguelles vision may be poetic truth
(maybe) but as I recall from reading EARTH ASCENDANT (or whatever it was
called where he first spelled this Mayan stuff out) he certainly arrived at
it through methodical analytical (almost mathematical) means. As poetry it
certainly is striking and beautiful stuff. I guess I've always been a little
wary of jumping to cosmic conclusions based on someone's nifty poem...

Just another perspective on the Mayan stuff...

Having just returned from the Yucatan, I have some rather
non-factual stuff to offer. (I almost said share.. whew!)

Last Saturday morning, I was overlooking the Mayan community of
Uxmal from atop the Sorcerer's Pyramid. The smell of the 1,200
or so year old buildings still graces my nostrils. And as with
my visit to Stonehenge fifteen years ago, my life is somehow
changed having experienced touching stones carved and hauled by
our predecessors.

There was no literature or poetry to read; the Spanish bishops
seem to have destroyed all or most of it. And I haven't really
absorbed the mayan mathematical concepts enough to comment on
them. It's impressive to me that they and other Mesoamericans
were able to measure and predict lunar, solar and venutian cycles
and eclipses. The mystery that surrounds their appearance and
demise is deep and in some ways painful.

I found myself imagining that I was witness to the power the
magicians and rulers held. At times, I felt that time had melted
away and I "there. With my 20th century cynicism of
charlatans and false gods, I felt unsure of what actually had
happened/was happening. I just knew it was a powerful
experience.

I like to look at Harmonic Convergence
both as a series of future events
that will announce the era of end of denial (1992-2000),
and as *the* thing that's happening through us, right now.

That's what it sounds like the convergence is all about -- linking
our intentionalities in as many ways as possible.

One important part of this whole time for me is the emergence of ritual in
our Western culture. The Christian rituals I learned as a child never "taught"
me anything real -- as have some of the Native American rituals I've been
part of recently, or Alli's grounding and centering ritual he briefly led us
through last week at Shared Visions.

One point in that ritual and in all this is allowing the Earth (the entity that
chose to be incarnated this time as the Planet Earth) to speak to you and to
allow yourself to resonate with the core energy that comes from the Earth's
core. It gives me chills of excitement.

Try it -- sit outside on the ground, and allow yourself to feel your spinal
cord connecting to the Earth, allow the bottom of it to open as if it were a
camera lens, and allow the energy and life force of the Earth to enter you.
Breathe the Earth energy into you on your inhale. On the exhale, breathe the
Earth's energy deeply into all parts of your body and being -- until you feel
DENSE with the Earth's energy.

The British newspaper "Durham Times" recently interviewed Wilkinson about his book. Wilkinson says in every lecture he gives he is always asked whether he believes there is life elsewhere in the Universe. To him the underlying question that is implied is: "what is what would that mean for our current models of science and religious faith?" To answer the first question, Wilkinson told "Durham Times": If every star has planets around it, and we're beginning to think most do, and there are 100 billion stars in 100 billion galaxies, surely there must be another Earth-like planet out there and surely there must be other life. As for the implications of the confirmation of extraterrestrial life, those are the topics the book tackles. Wilkinson says Christian theologians are already discussing these issues. Some theorize that Jesus' forgiveness extends to people of all planets, and other feel that each planet may have its own Jesus figure. However, Wilkinson suggests, "Maybe the only way we'll know what God has done is if the little green men and women arrive and we have some kind of conversation." Some feel that extraterrestrials are already here. However, Wikinson says, "In the evidence I've looked at I find no definitive weight of evidence that says we are a visited planet." Still, he says UFO sightings should be taken seriously, including claims of extraterrestrial communication, visitation, and abduction. He says that although many of the claims are hoaxes and misidentifications, others are not so easily explained away. Wilkinson says he is an avid supporter for the search for extraterrestrial intelligence and appreciates the history of the interactions between science and religion. He says, "It's more subtle and fruitful than just conflict." Review The Thin Veil Of London - Book Of The Walk

I so enjoyed the guided walk into horror writer Arthur Machen's London that I went on recently, I bought the book.

Both the walk and the book are called The Thin Veil of London and cover a journey into the minds of the great thinkers, visionaries, scientists, poets and writers who lived in the area around Bloomsbury and Holborn. The authors are Rich Cochrane and Robert Kingham, who previously performed Align, about London's myths and psychogeography.

The blurb at the back of The Thin Veil of London says: "A single idea passes like a delicate thread from the scientific Enlightenment through Romanticism and the Victorian age: that of a veil behind which true knowledge may be found by those able to draw it aside."

It looks at how the line has been drawn between madness and sanity, science and magic, religion and mysticism, experience and logic. It looks at the conflicting theories of philosophers, scientists, theologians - all of whom were trying to ascertain what is the true nature of reality and what, if anything, lies beyond our material world.

Arthur Machen's tales are used as the backdrop to this as the characters in them are often also exploring those same themes. They glimpse fabulous realms behind the bricks and mortar of London's buildings that can perhaps be reached through dreams, contact with otherworldly forces, or at certain times of the day or year. Yet the price is often madness - and this is another theme that runs throughout The Thin Veil of London. It looks at how madness has been defined throughout history and leaves one wondering if, sometimes, a little insanity is a price worth paying for a chance to see for oneself the glorious vistas that lie behind the veil of our mundane world.

Both the walk and the book are full of thought-provoking ideas as well as teaching a huge amount about the history of Bloomsbury and its intellectual residents. The book goes into greater depth than the walk, and is worth taking time to read and mull over. I'd recommend doing the walk first, and there are still dates this summer with a few tickets available. But if you can't get on the walk, buy the book and wander the streets of Bloomsbury yourself looking at the places mentioned. It does include maps showing the important locations.
