In Brazil Adventists Demonstrate Christian Hospitality

Seventh-day Adventist young people in Rio de Janeiro demonstrated Christian hospitality this week when they offered 170 Catholic youth in town for World Youth Day a place to stay.

The Italian Catholics were part of the WORLD YOUTH DAY PILGRIMAGE, which saw thousands of young Catholics worldwide travel to Rio de Janeiro for a week to CELEBRATE the diversity of the Catholic Church and deepen their PERSONAL SPIRITUALITY.

MEMBERS OF THE ADVENTIST CENTRAL CHURCH in Rio de Janeiro WELCOMED THE GROUP AT THE AIRPORT AND PROVIDED TRANSPORTATION AND ACCOMMODATION AT THE CHURCH during their week of pilgrimage.

"We have our doctrinal differences, but we serve a God who gave us an example of loving our neighbors. We are helping these young people not because of their faith, but because they are in need and we would assist members of any denomination," said Romulo Silver, a local church leader.

During the week of World Youth Day, local Adventist churches also took the opportunity to pray for the young Catholics and invite them to local church functions.

NEW MOON - The beginning of a new lunar cycle. Keywords are:beginning, birth, emergence, projection, and clarity. It is the time in a cycle that you are stimulated to take a new action. During this phase the new cycle is being seeded by your vision, inner and outer. Engage in physical activity. Spend time alone. VISUALIZE your goals for the 29.6-day cycle ahead.

A new lunar cycle starts in the dark - the New Moon is still shrouded by the dark but will emerge in the western skies in a few days after the setting sun - it will appear as a thin crescent. In the darkness there is a sense of expectancy within, a stirring, a striving toward energy and growth; the forming of a tiny but brightly burning point of light. From this hush comes forth excitement; the shaping of fresh ideas; anticipation of the emergence into lighter nights when impulses quicken and creativity flourishes. Hecate is withdrawing, making way for the Maiden moon who will seize our thoughts and push us toward outward activity once more. The tiredness and the drained feeling of the old moon will be replaced by an alertness that has yet to find structure and direction. Creative fire stirs toward a goal that has not yet found expression. It is as if the moon's closeness to the sun results in a quenching of her light but also the honing of her impulse to bring creative ideas into form. We are faced with possibilities from which we have yet to choose.

SOME MAGICK APPROPRIATE FOR THE NEW MOON:

* Take a seed for each new goal you want to achieve during this lunar cycle. Hold them one by one in your cupped hands till you have thoroughly visualized each intention, then plant the seeds individually in a bowl of earth.

* Take a pure white candle, stroke it from base to center and tip to center with oil such as olive or almond. Be careful to avoid the wick or the candle will splatter when lit. As you dress it in this way, concentrate on a fresh new project that you wish to work on, then light the candle. Burn it every night at the same time till the moon is full.

* Think of a goal, then tie three knots in a silver cord or ribbon, voicing your magickal intention with each knot. Put it on your shrine or tie it in the branches of a tree in your garden till just before the next new moon, then untie the knots and cleanse the cord through the elements so that it can used again for future spells.

* Go outside when the new crescent moon is visible, and make a wish (but don't tell anyone else till it comes true!).

This New Moon excitement will be further enhanced by the Moon being in Fixed Air Sign of Aquarius. Moon in Aquarius says "I experience." Rowans flower in May. They grow to 50 feet and are members of the Rose family (Rosaceae). They are cultivated in North America, especially in the northeast. It is thought that the rowan got its name from the Norse word "runa, "indicating a 'charm.' It has had an association with protection from ancient times, and is often found growing close to houses and churchyards to ward off evil presences. Traditions speak of the rowan as an espeically powerful protector against witchcraft, and to bind a piece of red thread around a twig of rowan can turn aside the strongest spell.

And also some really good news for today - the end of Mercury Retrograde - we can begin to see our communications become more clear and less snarled. We can begin to make plans to start new projects and this is so appropriate with the New Moon phase.

calgaryherald - According to Chip Coffey, the Banff Springs Hotel is a lively place for the dead.

While Fairmont may not be putting this in its brochures, it seems those long held theories that the 123-year-old historical building is a hotbed for ghostly activities are true.

Coffey, the bespectacled medium and psychic from A&E shows Paranormal State and Psychic Kids, was in the hotel for only 15 minutes Sunday afternoon when he claims to have sensed no less than three ghosts milling about amid the chattering mob of movers, shakers and wannabes attending the Banff World Television Festival.

One was a woman, perhaps the famous bride who died on her wedding day and is said to haunt one of the hotel's many stairwells. Her name, Coffey has determined, was Christina and she was pregnant when she died.

"Not one life but two were lost at that time," said Coffey, in an interview with the Herald in the lobby of the Fairmont Banff Hotel. "With me being here, she felt very comfortable is saying, 'It's not a stigma anymore, so I will let you know I was pregnant. And the only two people who knew at the time was my mother and my husband-to-be.'

He also saw a man who he believes may have been Sam McAuley, the devoted bellman whose ghostly figure is said to haunt the hotel on a regular basis since his death in the 1970s.

The third was a little boy named Jack. He just wanted to hang.

"He's been around and pretty active and hanging in my room," says Coffey on Monday afternoon. "I do a show called Psychic Kids and I work with a lot of children. Children in particular feel comfortable, in spirit, to be chatting with me. The boy identified himself as Jack -- he's blond, he's about six to nine years old. He showed up in my room first and came through last night on the ghost walk."

Coffey, who was at the Banff World Television Festival for a panel discussion about paranormal TV shows, was enlisted to lead a private ghost walk around the premises alongside some VIPs. That's when he met Christina again, and Sam. The hotel's famous "hidden room" on the eighth floor is apparently haunted by ghosts of sheepish workers, who hang around as a sort of penance for mistakes in construction that required the room to be hidden in the first place. During his short stay in Banff, lights have mysteriously turned on in his hotel room, his computer rebooted by itself and his tour manager claimed some sort of presence was tapping him on the shoulder Sunday night.

"There's history," says Coffey about the hotel. "There's a lot of people here celebrating good times, maybe some bad times. There's people who are here with a lot of emotional events occurring. There were a lot of things that were heightened emotional events. Plus all the people here are very excited to be here. It's very open and your people are networking and having a good time and they're open and expressive emotionally. That really does attract energy, also. Our heightened excitement might heighten their excitement for trying to communicate."
