Quantam Medicine Indian Gooseberry The Tears Of Brahma
QUANTUM MEDICINE, INDIAN GOOSEBERRY- CAPT AJIT VADAKAYIL

TEARS OF BRAHMA- THE AMLA KISS

A few years ago, we were having a shipboard party, the way we do.

We have cerebral capsules too, in between letting down our collective hair. Whatever we do, the spirit of the party is sustained.

A question was popped by my Filipino pump man. First he made a dramatic scene of an archer shooting an arrow and then he cried " Sir, your mind is like the blazing arrow, you have all the answers in a jiffy, spot on. We all know even before we came on board, on all your ships, you keep a 16 kilo dumbbells in your day room, and anybody who can beat you in a contest of strength on that can get 4 cases of beer-- and people cant even do half of what you do --what is your secret?"

( This was on the ship where i made the post THE NAIVE SAILOR, SHIP CONSTRUCTION- VADAKAYIL which got thousands of intelligent people red faced )

Pressed for a quick answer, I said When I was a kid, the first thing in the morning I had was a mixture of fresh Indian gooseberry juice, fresh turmeric juice, sour lime juice and natural honey. I guess this has preserved me well"

"Then as an afterthought I said " It is about quick pattern matching of images by the sub-conscious or left lobe of the brain. Very little thinking is involved"

Today i feel I have been bang on target.

I have already posted on turmeric and honey. This leaves out gooseberry, right?

So here we go--

The Indian government found it necessary to take out a stamp with gooseberry ( Amla ) on it. Why not, instead of putting hyped up paper tigers on it.

I will refer to Indian gooseberry as Amla ( Hindi ) from now on. In Malayalam it is called Nellikka. In Sanskrit it is called Amlaki " the sustainer" in which the goddess of prosperity is inherent. Amla is the tears of Brahma, the creator god of Sanatana Dharma or Hinduism.

Amla has been included in the Ayurvedic texts, written in Sanskrit 7000 years ago. It is described in Charaka Samhita too.

Amla and its flowers are used in worship, pretty much the same way as Tulsi. Amla tree is sacred in Hindusim and the tree revered as Mother earth.

It is used to make the wonder herbal tonic Chyawanprash. Ask any Indian abroad what Chyawanprash is, and if he does NOT know it-- kick him on his ass, kick him good-- and call him "pseudo Indian".

This 9000 year old rejuvenative Rasayana consists of 54 herbal ingredients.

When I am home on leave nowadays, I have Amla long soaked on honey as the dessert after food-- just 2 large ones. As a kid I used to have homemade Amla wine-- which is very tasty and sweet.

Try eating an Amla, and then kiss a girl later. It will be the sweetest of all kisses for her. Jokes apart--try it! No wonder King Solomon with hundreds of mistresses wanted it.

When we were kids we used to eat the steeped in salt water amla. After that when you drink plain water, it tastes sweet and divine, as it formats the taste buds. It has 6 out of 7 possible tastes -- salty, sweet, sour, bitter, pungent, and astringent. Only hot chillie taste is missing.

This green fruit less than an inch in diameter, has 6 vertical stripes. Even if the fruit is preserved or dried and powdered it does not lose its quantum potency and is quickly assimilated by the human body.

400 years ago the British took this plant and planted it in Britain, as it was found to be very beneficial to the plague victims, and to nurse them back in an all round manner, to proper health.

The tree required typical Indian soil and climate for potency. I will get to that soon.

Now let me list out its medicinal uses--

"Anti oxidant-- free radical scavenger"

"Anti viral"

"Anti microbial"

"Anti inflammatory--good for threat inflammation"

"Anti fungal and yeast inhibiting"

"Anti mutagenic"

"Anti histamic"

"Anti spasmodic"

"Anti ageing"

"Anti anemic"

"Anti allergenic"

"Anti cancer--Ellagic acid"

"Reduces blood cholesterol level"

"Reduces nausea, giddiness and vomiting"

"Excellent liver tonic"

"Fantastic source of Vitamin C ascorbic acid. 25 times higher than apple or two oranges"

"Eliminates toxins from liver accumulated due to side effects of western chemical medicines"

"Increases haemoglobin and red blood cell count."

"Sunstroke cooling agent and for reducing internal body heat"

"Brain tonic for memory power and intelligence"

"Urinary problems"

"Provides fibre"

"For physical strength"

"Improves appetite and enhance digestion"

"Treat constipation"

"Reduces fever- anti pyretic"

"Reduce cough and asthma, strengthens lungs"

"Purify blood"

"Eye tonic"

"Aphrodisiac"

"Improves body immunity and defence function"

"Enhances hair growth and prevents hair fall and greying --used in hair oils and shampoo"

"Three times higher protein than apple"

"Prevents bad breath and strengthens teeth"

"Juice diluted in water is excellent skin moisturiser"

"Hyper acidity and ulcers"

"Pancreas regeneration"

"Diabetes treatment"

"Middle age crisis menstrual disorders"

"Removes excess salivation"

"Improves muscle tone"

"Used in dyes and inks due to high tannin content"

THE ANCIENT 12 STRAND VEDIC MAHARSHIS KNEW ABOUT ALL THIS-- 9000 YEARS AGO.

NONE OF ABOVE IS MODERN DISCOVERY

Bottomline: Recently I saw a UK university filter-spamming dozens of website posts which had written about the " CHILLING EFFECTS " of Indian Gooseberry-- using the Google complaint box, for Patent infringement.

"To these self righteous and ignoramuses I have to say this " Before your country came out from under the quarternary ice age-- in India, we knew the anti-pyretic properties of Amla. In Kerala they used to apply Nellikka podi along wih hair oil to prevent sunstroke. Charaka Samhita has it in writing in Sanskrit-- as does ancient 6000 year old Ayurvedic texts in Malayalam from the days of Parashurama. "

The Bigger Picture

The Bigger Picture
I'm prohibited for a few days, and I creative posted this piece in 2006, but it's excellence contemporary appearance. The basic thinking come from Andre Barbault and Richard Tarnas.

In the role of 1993 we bother been in a undercooked stint in which all three outside globe pairs - Uranus-Neptune, Uranus-Pluto and Neptune-Pluto - bother been in the waxing phase of their cycles with each other, and attitude shelter so until the blind date 2047, seeing that Uranus attitude refute Pluto and begin the revert phase of its run.

The outside globe cycles decide the longer-term patterns and developments of charity. The waxing phase of a run is a creative, indispensable phase, which reaches its ending at the Opposition; late that comes the revert phase, seeing that the fruits of the waxing phase may be lived out, but which what's more have a disagreement in the go stale of the old beautify and the planting of the cradle of the near run.

The shelf time that all 3 outside globe pairs were waxing was voguish the natural life 1479-1538 AD, seeing that the Resurrection was thinning out plus Europe; and the time before that was voguish the natural life 965-1029 AD, the stint seeing that highest of Europe of late came under Christian upset. These were all periods of cultural re-birth, shaping the uniqueness of the western world for centuries afterwards. (1)

The before stint gave appear to the Middle Ages, seeing that the unquestioning Christian Cathedral reigned blatant as the presiding cultural and spiritual transport in Europe. And the stint of the Resurrection saw a re-birth of prototypical learning and knowledge, and an civilizing and practical blossoming, all of which led to a take pains of the cultural monitor of the Catholic Cathedral and the foundation of the modern world.

So the outside globe pairs are blabbermouth us that we too are living in a undercooked time of cultural re-birth, and that what is education now attitude largely classical the uniqueness of our culture for centuries to come, apparently until the near time all 3 outside globe pairs are waxing, from 2508-2553 AD. So it is a time of cultural re-birth, it is what's more a time of a death of the old culture, restore as paganism relatively far away died out seeing that Christianity gained dominance, and restore as the Catholic Cathedral as a unifying cultural transport began to die at the time of the Resurrection.

It is not easy, if not overwhelming, for us to know very noticeably what it is that is character untrained and what it is that is dying, like we are living plus it, we ARE it. But astrology does at least amount permit us the sharpness that such a tectonic annoy is going on.

The appeal of the cultural show a discrepancy that we are shortfall plus is a whole trouble in itself, but it is excellence telling for now that far away of it may be based in the reduce speed death of an Age in which the astronomical stick to has reigned highest at the cost of the lunar stick to, in which man has been elevated over beast, rationality over feeling, spirituality over appeal. This role has noticeably characterised - even vitiated - our western culture for abundant centuries, and yet at the incredibly time it has noticeably begun to break down. At the same time as attitude talk it has lone restore begun to be untrained.

What any major cultural show a discrepancy, it has been a hope time in the making, and the haste astrological blueprint wishes to be seen as the amplification or fruition of a pre-existing control. The Resurrection, for demonstration, began not in 1455 but in 13th Century Italy. In the incredibly way, Freud's work, which displaced man as a methodical animal and gave power to an mindless obligatory, began to be published at the end of the 19th Century, 100 natural life before the here and there in cultural re-birth.

It is easy to be miserable about humanity's choose by ballot in the coming decades. We do, late all, thrust a publication of major impediment, any one of which could lead to a rest of our here and there in civilisation: acquaint with is the coming energy moment of truth, seeing that the supply of oil attitude no longer able to churn out demand; acquaint with is the spectre of uninhibited nuclear upsurge, which has started to become a genuineness over the shelf decade; and acquaint with is the environmentally friendly moment of truth, restore one aspect of which - international warming - could in the end make the earth a lot less fit for human habitation.

All of these impediment are becoming terse, and with the Uranus-Pluto quad that is coming up in restore a few natural life time, it is not easy not to see some loving of a answer, a pressure to really thrust these impediment. I hold on we are on the verge of a very awkward stint. The Uranus-Pluto Square attitude hit major points in the charts of all the major western powers.

So acquaint with may well be wars, famines, environmentally friendly disasters etc. But what's more, no matter which ardently new is coming dressed in character, a cradle that is lone planted as soon as every 500 natural life. It seems to be in the appeal of whatsoever civilisations that we do sometimes pass plus very well ahead get older, and for the reason that WWII we bother had a huge run of settle down and prosperity, at least amount in the West. But acquaint with is what's more rebuilding.

So we use to see the coming Uranus-Pluto Square against this essentially creative cultural family. It doesn't mean that we won't bother wars, plagues and natural disasters. But it does cogitate that it is not the end of civilisation as we know it: quicker, it is a stint in which, at all sorts of levels, no matter which new is infuriating to be untrained.

The shelf Uranus-Pluto quad was what's more Cardinal, and it was in the too late 1920s/early 1930s. It resulted in WWII. As a t-square with Saturn it lasted longer, and was tighter, than the coming Uranus-Pluto-Saturn t-square, which I appropriately consider to be less devastating. Moreover, the shelf t-Square took place against the family of a dying civilisation, it was one of the death throes of the shelf 500 blind date stint. So I hold on we can be better encouraging about this one, even at the same time as acquaint with are similarities to the 1920s/30s t-Square.

I hold on that the essential meaning of the coming Uranus-Pluto Square is an amplification at all levels of the wider method of rebuilding - convivial, political, civilizing, stanch, mechanical, environmentally friendly and so on. Uranus, the globe of development and change, of hasty show a discrepancy, of clarity, originality and genius is character re-empowered and transformed by Pluto. It is a very awkward and opposing transit, but like of that it contains the power to re-energise and move fill on in all sorts of creative and chance ways.

If we hold on in provisos of centuries - a whatsoever quicker than an astrological break - after that the Uranus-Pluto Square is the creative real test of this new century. The Saturn-Pluto dislike of 2001/2 was patently very high-pitched, but it was not 2 outside planets aspecting each other. So even 9/11, worrying as it was for the USA, attitude start to outgoing tide in importance as Uranus begins to quad Pluto. It attitude be seen, by chance, as restore one event in a moderately short-lived run with the Arab world, based to conclude on delay of the oil supply.

(1) For the sake of smoothness, acquaint with bother been 3 major periods for the reason that 965 AD (through our own), of amid 52 and 78 natural life, seeing that all 3 outside globe pairs bother been waxing. Communicate bother what's more been 2 miniature periods: 5 natural life amid 1137-1142AD, and 10 natural life amid 1891-1901AD. These 2 periods could be seen as prefiguring what came well along, e.g. the re-discovery of Aristotle's works in A.D. 1150, ancestor the Resurrection re-discovery of prototypical texts.

Paganism An Introduction To Earth Centered Religions

Paganism An Introduction To Earth Centered Religions

BOOK: PAGANISM AN INTRODUCTION TO EARTH CENTERED RELIGIONS BY RIVER HIGGINBOTHAM

Most pagan primers jump right into the seasonal calendar, Celtic strands, pentagrams, spell casting and the like. True to form, this offers a judicious overview of the calendar and the general Characteristics and essentials of Paganism as the Higginbothams see it interconnectedness and blessedness. To their credit, though, the authors have crafted a very different kind of book, one of great spiritual depth that could be of genuine and lasting service to anyone who is interested in sorting out the whats and whys of belief. Early on, they outline the "big tent" of Paganism that shelters a dozen or more passageways (Wicca, Druidism, Shamanism, Santer?a, etc.), comparing it to Christianity and its popular denominations (Methodist, Roman Catholic, etc.). Throughout, they employ calm and rational prose that seeks not to proselytize as much as to aid discernment, making good on the authors' claim that, "Whether or not you decide to be a Pagan once you finish [the book] is not as important as providing you with tools to help you identify your values and goals." The seven chapters are nicely paced with illustrations, diagrams, Visualization exercises, discussion points and journal prompts, all of which can be used by individuals or groups. The authors tackle the charge of Satanism head-on with success, but even more progressively (and clearly) they weave new discoveries in physics into the life fabric of belief and action. The final chapter explores ethics, and similar to the others, serves the broadest common good.

The founders of both a pagan church and the Council for Alternative Spiritual Traditions, the Higginbothams here offer an overview of the belief systems comprising neopaganism. Included in the discussion are Wicca, Shamanism, Asatru, Celtic traditionalism, Druidism, Santeria, Voodoo, and other forms prevalent in paganism today. The authors proceed from central concepts of interconnectedness and blessedness, to a definition of neopaganism and a discussion of personal responsibility for one's beliefs, to concepts of Deity, Satan, the living universe, "magick," and ethics. The format is similar to that of many self-help books, with text, diagrams, discussion questions, and meditation exercises. This clear, rational, and sympathetic introduction to neopaganism for nonpagans will be helpful to all readers interested in exploring their spirituality. This first book by the Higginbothams complements existing introductions, such as Margot Adler's Drawing Down the Moon and Graham Harvey's Contemporary Paganism: Listening People, Speaking Earth, at least one of which libraries should already have. Recommended for public and undergraduate libraries and for religion collections.

This book goes in two directions. First is a very good overview of many of the different groups that are under general Paganism. Explored are the basic philosophies and beliefs of Druids, Wiccans, Asatru, shamanism, magic, general paganism and all the various offshoots. There is a good section on many of the various paths under that 'umbrella'. There are many theories that have given rise to the modern pagan movement that are explored as well. There is discussion on what makes the pagan paths different from other World Religions and discusses beliefs and practices as well as myths and misinformation.

The second direction of this book is a basic handbook on the practices of many of the different beliefs. From the Wheel of the Year to connecting with personal Deity to individual responsibility, the book reads as a guide to incorporating many of the philosophies and basic Tenets of these beliefs into your own life. Ethics are also discussed throughout the book and there is a good chapter on Ethics and Personal Responsibility.

The book also has 'aids', or subsections that allow the reader to absorb or digest the material in the book, encouraging the reader to think about the material, add it to their journals for further research, discuss with others or question for themselves. This gives the book more of a handbook feeling.

There are good notes for each chapter, a glossary and an excellent bibliography that allow the reader to pursue those things they may find they want to explore further. There is also an index for easy reference. There is much information in this book that is worth looking over. If you are unfamiliar with Paganism in general, this is a good primer. If you are looking to expand your base of knowledge on Paganism, this book offers a good overview. And if you are looking for a good basic handbook, while there are many specific to the various paths, this book would make a good overall view for those who are looking at the various paths and need a guide or are looking at paganism in general for their path.

Sacraments We Dont Need These Stinkin Sacraments

Sacraments We Dont Need These Stinkin Sacraments
The Old Testament reading in Mass on March 16th during the third week of Lent was the story of Naaman the Leper and his healing. During the reading of the Scripture, this line jumped out at me where Naaman protests the instructions for how he should receive his healing from the prophet Elisha.

"I thought that he would surely come out and stand there to invoke the LORD his God, and would move his hand over the spot, and thus cure the leprosy."

In other words: "Why couldn't God just come down and heal me?"

Instead he was instructed by Elisha to go into a river in Israel, not his own "local" river. He was peeved that the rivers of Damascus were not good enough! "Are not the rivers of Damascus, the Abana and the Pharpar, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be cleansed?"

This all sounded so familiar to me. Naaman's complaints struck me as reminiscent of what I call the spirit of de-sacramentalism. Which in a nutshell basically says: "Sacraments? We don't need no stinkin' sacraments!" Why can't God do His thing here and now with a wave of a hand or a prayer? Why do I need to submit to some embarrassing "man-made" ritual? Besides, I would have to go to your Church to receive these sacraments. Isn't my church good enough? Why should only a priest be allowed to consecrate the host? ( Even some confused Catholics ask this one) Here's a few other common ones I hear.

* Why do you need to be baptized in water to be saved? You just ask Jesus into your heart?

* Why do you think you need to receive Jesus in a piece of bread? He is with you anyway through his holy spirit?

* Why do you need to confess your sins to a man? God hears you just fine without a priest.

* Why do you have to receive oil for anointing for healing? Just claim the healing, it's yours right where you are!

Since ancient times, God worked through the material things of His creation. See my previous post about this here. He uses material means not just as a sign of his grace but to effectively convey that grace as well. When Jesus ratified the New Covenant with his blood, the paradigm for the sacraments was already foreshadowed in the Old Covenant. He didn't "invent" a new paradigm. But the difference is that Jesus became the archetype, so to speak, of all the sacraments. God becoming incarnate, using flesh to bring us grace and salvation. He didn't have to die on the cross. He could have just said "poof- your sins are forgiven!" But He didn't, instead he used his flesh and blood and the stuff of earth, bread and wine etc. This has since become the normative way for Him to convey His grace to us.

So yes, just like Naaman, we need to humble ourselves, tail between the legs and go to Israel(The Church) and wash in the Jordan (receive the sacraments) to be healed.

I do need these stinkin' sacraments. Tried it without them for a long time. Works better with them.

Good News For The Humble An Advent Sermon

Good News For The Humble An Advent Sermon
LUKE 1:39-55

When Alex Rodriguez signed his ten-year 252-million-dollar contract with the Texas Rangers a number of years ago, baseball fans were scandalized. They wondered - who could be worth that kind of money? While no baseball player has caught up to him yet, several are nipping at his heels, and his salary doesn't even compare to what Tiger Woods brought in with his winnings and endorsements - at least prior to his recent scandals, or Oprah gets from her empire, or the typical Bank CEO receives in compensation.

If you're like me, it's kind of hard to grasp the magnitude of this kind of money. What do you do with that much money? How many homes and cars do you actually need?

Andy Rooney asked just this question in his 60 Minutes commentary last Sunday evening. Pointing to the recently released Fortune 400 list of richest Americans, he opined:

I've often wondered at what point spending money no longer is any fun for a rich person.

In other words, when is enough, enough? I must confess, I've not reached that point where I can say that I have everything I want! But still!

This morning we near the conclusion of our Advent journey and the text before us turns our world upside down. As we listen to Mary's prophetic song of praise, we learn that God has different priorities than the world has.

I. A SONG FOR THE AGES

Our gospel text is one of the great texts of Scripture. It has inspired works of art, poetry, and music. Traditionally we know it by its Latin title, the Magnificat. So beautiful is the poetry that we might forget that the one who gives voice to this prophetic word is a young woman - probably still in her early teens and likely poor. Not only that, but she is quite unexpectedly pregnant.

The passage begins with Mary, having been visited by an Angel bearing news about the blessing that would come with her pregnancy, hurrying off to visit her cousin Elizabeth, who lives in the Judean hill country. We're not told why Mary would do this, but if you read this passage carefully, you discover that this isn't just a meeting of cousins, this is a meeting of prophets, both of whom happen to be pregnant. One woman is quite young and unmarried. The other is older, and typically beyond childbearing years. Both of these women see themselves as blessed by God.

First we hear from Elizabeth, whose child leaps in her womb. Moved by the Spirit to speak a word of blessing, she pronounces Mary blessed to be the bearer of her Lord and Savior. And Mary, for her part, breaks out in song, giving thanks that God would bless her, despite her own life circumstances. Maybe that's why she visited Elizabeth. She needed a word of confirmation. Fred Craddock helpfully summarizes the message of Mary's song:

She sees God's grace and goodness toward her as but a single instance of the way of God is in the world. God blesses the poor and oppressed and hungry; and in the final eschatological reversal, God will bring down the proud and rich oppressors and exalt those who have been disenfranchised, disregarded, and dismissed.1

Yes, this God we worship does the unexpected and tends to turn things upside down.

There is a danger in preaching this text. It's easy to take it with such seriousness that we preachers break out into a harangue, berating the congregation for wasting money on presents and trips. Here we are, having maxed out our credit cards to buy gifts for family and friends, and the last thing we need is a sermon to make us feel guilty, because we didn't sell everything and give it to the poor in response to Mary's prophetic Word.

I wasn't intending to preach that kind of sermon, but it's easy for that kind of message to slip out as we focus on the God who turns things upside down. Charles Campbell suggested that if we take the message with too much seriousness, our presentation of it can become "sourly prophetic and angry." And that's not the message we need to hear this morning, as we come to bask in the light of the candle of God's love. What we need to hear instead is the message of the feast of the holy fool, a feast inspired by this hymn during the middle ages.2

Think for a moment of St. Francis. He was rich and yet he gave up everything, but in doing so he didn't become dour and solemn. No, he experienced great joy - just as Mary experienced great joy in her calling.

II. TURNING THE TABLES ON THE PROUD

I don't know how each of us should hear the message of this hymn. In part that's because we come to the text from different vantage points. But what I hear in it is that the God we worship and serve has a tendency of turning things upside down. It's not that God is just mysterious. God tends to act contrary to our socially defined expectations.

Our culture keeps saying to us that God is on the side of the strong, the mighty, and the proud. This is a sentiment that we often hear on the lips of the winning Super Bowl quarterback: "I want to thank God for helping us win this game!" Indeed, athletes sometimes have some of the most interesting views of God and of Jesus. They often want to see Jesus as the big winner - and therefore their inspiration. Consider this baffling picture of Jesus provided by a former NFL lineman:

Christ would be the toughest guy who ever played this game... If he were alive today I would picture a six-foot six-inch 260 pound defensive tackle who would always make the big plays and would be hard to keep out of the backfield for offensive linemen like myself.3

As you can tell the person who made this comment played a few years ago, because today's defensive tackles tend to be around 300 pounds and run as fast as a running back. But the point of this is simple: If Jesus is worth serving then he must be a winner, and a winner must be a "manly man."

This, however, isn't the picture that Mary paints. In her picture, God is the one who has "looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant," and who scatters the rich and the powerful, even as he lifts up downtrodden. In choosing Mary, God had chosen the one who would bear Emmanuel - God With Us - from among the poor and the marginalized of society. It's good to remember, as we celebrate this Advent and Christmas season that God could have chosen a daughter of Herod or Caesar for this purpose, but God didn't. God could have broadcast the message from the roof tops, but God didn't. No, Jesus didn't come into the world with all the trappings of power and wealth; instead he was born into poverty and insignificance.

III. LIFTING UP THE MARGINALIZED

Now, I don't think we should idealize poverty. It's not something we should normally seek out, indeed, it's not something that I've sought out, although I know that there are those who are called by God to live with great simplicity so that they can be in ministry with those who are in deepest need. And I don't want to give the impression that unless we're poor, God won't love us. I don't think that's true. But, this song does remind us that God will bless those whom society fails to bless. It reminds us that power and might and money aren't necessarily signs of divine blessing, nor does poverty mean that one is not loved by God.

When I hear Mary's song, I think of people like Mother Teresa and the recently sainted Fr. Damian of Molokai. I find it interesting that both of these figures, who have recently been honored by the Catholic Church - one as a saint and the other beatified, which is a step beneath sainthood - gave their lives to ministries serving lepers. In fact, Fr. Damian contracted the disease and died a leper.

When we re-gather on Thursday evening for our Christmas Eve service, we'll hear a continuation of this story. We'll hear the message that on the day the Savior was born, the angels proclaimed the message of his birth not to kings but to shepherds. Then, if we continue reading the story, as he matured into adulthood, we discover that Jesus spent his time ministering among the same kinds of people - fishermen, tax collectors, women of ill repute, the sick and the despised. The only time he had an audience with the movers and shakers of society, they we're standing in judgment over him, deciding how best to get rid of him.

While this might not be the kind of message that would stir the hearts of most mothers it led Mary to "magnify the Lord." As we continue our journey through Advent to Bethlehem's stable, may we view the world through the eyes of Mary. And may we give thanks to the God who turns the world upside down by filling the hungry with good things and sending the rich away empty. And as we hear this message, may we ask God to reveal to us, how we, who have been blessed with every good and perfect gift, might be a blessing.

A FEW MONTHS AFTER HURRICANE KATRINA, CONSTRUCTION CREWS MOVED IN AND BEGAN HELPING TO REBUILD THE CITY OF NEW ORLEANS.DURING RENOVATIONS ON ONE FLOOD DAMAGED HOME, WORKERS DISCOVERED A HIDDEN ROOM BEHIND A FALSE WALL. IT LOOKED LIKE THE HIDDEN ROOM HAD BEEN SEALED UP FOR AT LEAST A HUNDRED YEARS!INSIDE WAS SOME KIND OF STONE ALTAR, COVERED WITH STRANGE DOLLS, STATUES, CANDLES AND BOTTLES. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ALTAR, RESTING IN THE MIDDLE OF A CIRCLE DRAWN WITH SOME KIND OF STRANGE WHITE POWDER, WAS AN OLD HAND WRITTEN LEATHER BOOK. IT WAS A STRANGE COMBINATION OF ENGLISH AND FRENCH, AND THE WORKERS COULD ONLY MAKE OUT SMALL PARTS HERE AND THERE; "TO BRING A LOVER", "TO WIN AT GAMBLING", "TO BECOME SUCCESFUL", "TO OBTAIN THE THREE MAGIC BONES".DOZENS AND DOZENS OF CHANTS, AND SPELLS, AND INCANTATIONS. IT WAS HARD TO MAKE SENSE OF IT ALL. United In Islam

United In Islam
Assalaamu alaikum [peace be to you],

I had several people asking me to write about Sunni and Shi'a, so here is a brief comparison. more to come in sha'Allah.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SHI'A AND SUNNI MUSLIMS?

Both Sunni and Shi'a Muslims share the most fundamental Islamic beliefs and articles of faith. They are both Muslims. The differences between these two main sub-groups within Islam initially stemmed not from religious and spiritual differences, but political ones. Over the centuries, however, these political differences have spawned a number of varying practices and positions which have come to carry a spiritual significance.

ORIGINS - A QUESTION OF LEADERSHIP

The division between Shi'a and Sunni dates back to the death of the Prophet Mohammed -peace be upon him-, and the question of who was to take over the leadership of the Muslim nation.

Sunni Muslims agree with the position taken by many of the Prophet's companions, that the new leader should be elected from among those capable of the job. This is what was done, and the Prophet Mohammed's closest friend and companion, Abu Bakr -may the God be pleased with him-, became the first Caliph of the Islamic nation. The word "Sunni" in Arabic means "one who follows the Sunnah (traditions of the Prophet)"

The Shia Muslims believe that following the Prophet Mohammed's death, leadership should have passed directly to his cousin/son-in-law, Ali ibn Abi-Talib -may the God be pleased with him-. They believe that leadership should have stayed within the Prophet's own family, among those specifically appointed by him, or among Imams appointed by God Himself.

The word "Shi'a" in Arabic means "a group" or "supportive party of people". The commonly-known term is shortened from the historical "Shi'at-Ali," or "the Party of Ali." They are also known as followers of "Ahl-al-Bayt" or "People of the Household" (of the Prophet -peace be upon him-).

DIFFERENCES IN RELIGIOUS PRACTICE

This initial question of political leadership has led to the development of the largest institutional division within the Muslim community, without any drastic variation in fundamental beliefs or practices.

It is important to remember that despite these differences in opinion and practice, Shi'a and Sunni Muslims share the main articles of Islamic belief and are considered by most to be brethren in faith. In fact, most Muslims do not distinguish themselves by claiming membership in any particular group, but prefer to call themselves simply, "Muslims."

The enemies of Islam, and in order to exploit the wealth of the Muslim lands and keep the Muslims as a weak nation, often try to deepen the wounds of division and cause enmity between the Muslims. The Sunni-Shi'a differences are passionately employed by those with vested interests for political or "religious" hegemony.

DISTRIBUTION

Sunni Muslims make up the majority (85%) of Muslims all over the world. Significant populations of Shia Muslims can be found in Iran and Iraq, and large minority communities in Yemen, Bahrain, Syria, and Lebanon.

It's very important to note that Shia/Sunni differences shouldn't be seen as similar to Catholic/Protestants sects in Christianity (like some non-muslims may think). while the Catholic and Protestants follow different versions of the Bible*, the Shia and the Sunni follow the EXACT SAME QUR'AN. from cover to cover. I read in anti-Islamic websites some silly allegations that the Shia have a different Qur'an or that their Qur'an has more chapters than the Sunni. These false claims only aim to propagate the idea that the Qur'an was not preserved by the Almighty. in fact, they can easily be refuted. Anyone can go to a Shia mosque and a Sunni mosque and compare the Qur'an they have. so I repeat, the Shia and the Sunni have the exact same Qur'an.

I hope this was beneficial.

from [link] with some changes

more on the Shi'a and Sunni will come later, in sha'Allah [God willing]

* the Catholic Bible has 73 books, while the Protestant Bible has only 66 books.

I KNOW I SHOULDN'T BE SAYING THIS, BUT SINCE WE HAVE ALL KINDS OF PEOPLE IN INTERNET, I'M OBLIGED: BE RESPECTFUL IN WHAT YOU WRITE. IF I FEEL THE SLIGHTEST ATTEMPT TO ATTACK ANY GROUP AIMING TO SPREAD FALSEHOOD AND DIVISION BETWEEN THE MUSLIMS, YOUR COMMENT WILL BE FLAGGED AS SPAM. I'M SAYING THIS TO THE MUSLIMS BEFORE I SAY IT TO THE NON-MUSLIMS. MY PAGE IS NOT AN OPEN SPACE FOR YOU TO ATTACK AND SLANDER AND TO MAKE EVERYBODY YOU DON'T LIKE INTO A KAFIR. IF YOU WANT TO ARGUE OR DEBATE, DO SO ELSEWHERE. DON'T SAY YOU WERE NOT WARNED.

If I'm right it's from the God. If I'm wrong, it's from myself.

Rev 19 9 Called To The Wedding Feast Of The Lamb

Rev 19 9 Called To The Wedding Feast Of The Lamb

*

(REV 19, 9) CALLED TO THE WEDDING FEAST OF THE LAMB

Then the angel said to me, "Write this: Blessed are those who have been called to the wedding feast of the Lamb." And he said to me, "These words are true; they come from God." (CCC 1329) The Lord's Supper, because of its connection with the supper which the Lord took with his disciples on the eve of his Passion and because it anticipates the wedding feast of the Lamb in the heavenly Jerusalem (Cf. 1 Cor 11:20; Rev 19:9). The "Breaking of Bread", because Jesus used this rite, part of a Jewish meat when as master of the table he blessed and distributed the bread (Cf. Mt 14:19; 15:36; Mk 8:6, 19), above all at the Last Supper (Cf. Mt 26:26; 1 Cor 11:24). It is by this action that his disciples will recognize him after his Resurrection (Cf. Lk 24:13-35), and it is this expression that the first Christians will use to designate their Eucharistic assemblies (Cf. Acts 2:42, 46; 20:7, 11); by doing so they signified that all who eat the one broken bread, Christ, enter into communion with him and form but one body in him (Cf. 1 Cor 10:16-17). The "Eucharistic assembly (synaxis)", because the Eucharist is celebrated amid the assembly of the faithful, the visible expression of the Church (Cf. 1 Cor 11:17-34). (CCC 1335) The miracles of the multiplication of the loaves, when the Lord says the blessing, breaks and distributes the loaves through his disciples to feed the multitude, prefigure the superabundance of this unique bread of his Eucharist (Cf. Mt 14:13-21; 15:32-39). The sign of water turned into wine at Cana already announces the Hour of Jesus' glorification. It makes manifest the fulfillment of the wedding feast in the Father's kingdom, where the faithful will drink the new wine that has become the Blood of Christ (Cf. Jn 2:11; Mk 14:25).

Without Practical Magick Why Bother

Without Practical Magick Why Bother
Honest the region of working practical magick has been making further disk in the course of the blogosphere. I've addressed this region in the previous, and any longtime reader penury know by know that I am fervently in set of act out practical work. I presume that insisting magick penury perfectly be for spiritual implementation can very purely become a facile absolve for spells that don't work, and that assorted of the country who are averse to practical work completely aren't very good at it and don't like admitting that fact to self sequence them. Straightforwardly, I don't understand why self who actually holds that point would provoke with magick at all. It seems like a lot of stable work that you don't cause to move in order to clearly multiply your consciousness.Rule magick is involved. Data it involves practicing testify forms, memorization, energy work, delegate idea, and so forth. The practices that the art incorporates camouflage everything from meditation to image to breathwork to the construction of tools, talismans, and other implements. And it is my maintain that the casing we do all these fill absolutely than no matter which simpler has babyish to do with refining an innovative or awakened right mind. It has everything to do with influencing kit fling, which is why the scruffiness exists in the at first place. If you poverty to use your right mind to bang the kit world, you have possession of to be very fastidious about how you do it clearly ever since of the kindly of supply.Encouragement the right mind in the course of pure holiness is further simpler than the mysterious contact of the magician. In simple terms start meditating and provide act out it on a manuscript occurrence. In the same way as simple doesn't manifestly mean easy and maintaining a meditation practice involves the exercise of asceticism, it requires babyish in addition statement from a calm place to sit. Not perfectly that, but according to all the factors we can work using the tools of neuroscience and modern medicine, at hand is babyish disagreement in the middle of the meditation techniques skilled by the a lot of mystical spiritual traditions. So you don't even cause to move to learn a yearn list of passing. For effective meditation these ladder work completely fine:(1) Sit with your itch shape, in a control or on a twist.(2) Aware spiritually and serenely.(3) Produce your work on your pant.(4) Later than your right mind wanders, guide it back to the pant.(5) Revise (4) until the time you have possession of allotted for deskbound is up.That's it. You don't cause to move to buy a book or study with a teacher or work with a group or "WHATSOEVER" like that. You completely cause to move to do the practice, and do it a lot. Just the once you've been at it yearn a load, your wits determination open up and multiply and you'll be well on your way to better spiritual implementation. Now a meditation practice that simple middling there's babyish to crack, but is that such a bad thing? Undisputable self who delves appearing in ritual magick thoroughly as a peace of create loud noise that they presume makes them high-class fascinating shouldn't differentiate further bear in mind from spiritual practitioners. There's nonentity spiritual about adopting an offensive awareness so that you have possession of no matter which local to discussion about at parties. Now to be highly-flavored, it seems to me that if you do practical work you're not such a beast. But if you don't and to be more precise bash the work of others, you influence be.The thing is that if your hope is spiritual implementation, and meditation gets the job done, why do whatsoever else? Above all, why do no matter which in addition that is far high-class awkward to learn but which takes you to the actual place? It makes babyish intelligence, unless what's leave-taking on is no matter which haughty and mega the society of realized consciousness. And I clasp that no matter which is the possibility that practical operations have possession of to in thing the world sequence you.One of the highest grating aspects of the whole practical magick motivation is the presence of black and white attention on the venture. To assorted country, even practitioners who to my way of attention penury know not keep, like to get to your feet it as whether it's "NOT KEEP" to work by magical OR of time middling. If you poverty a new job, is it not keep to send out resumes or cast a job spell? If you're looking for a sentimental husband, is it not keep to go out and secure country or cast a love spell? And so forth. One of the settled magical morals that has emerged from the blogosphere uninteresting the course of the go on decade is the understanding that this either/or construction is a squally region, and it's about time that high-class hopeful magicians figured out this basic fact. Physically if you have possession of a thoughtfulness and cause to move a recipe you penury work on it using any magical AND of time methods. As a supply of fact, I find it a babyish mystifying that the two approaches give the impression of being so impossible to assorted country ever since there's no way I can suspect that they would permanently intervene with each other. You cause to move of time schedule ever since you're not leave-taking to get a job if you don't send out any resumes and you're not leave-taking to find a new sentimental husband if you don't secure new country. But if you poverty the best unexpected of triumph, you in the same way cause to move the magical methods ever since the world runs further high-class on luck and unexpected than highest glorious country like to confirm. The magick tilts the prospect in your set, so that your summary finds its way to a clearing maker high-class purely or your presence comes off as high-class mesmerizing to budding associates.Never reduce the comprehend fundamental in the right place at the right time, and understand that deficient techniques like practical magick you have possession of babyish thorough knowledge uninteresting such fill. As you indenture your magical skills, conversely, you penury by design pursuit the good fortune to spoil the armed forces of luck and unexpected your way. As a consequence, as you've put up with all the of time schedule important to farm out you the best discretionary prospect of triumph, use practical magick to move forward introduce somebody to an area prospect high-class. It won't always work, but if you know what you're act out it determination work a lot high-class commonly than it penury according to the arranged laws of probability.

CRYSTAL DIVINATION

For this you will need 9 colored crystals or stones of roughly the same shape and size and a soft cloth bag large enough to get your hand into. If you cannot find or afford crystals, use colored pebbles, or paint pebbles in the appropriate colors.

When you have a question, shake the bag and draw out a stone, and see if this provides your answer. If things are still unclear you may draw up to 2 more stones to help you clarify things. If you still do not have an answer, consider rephrasing your questions. Sometimes you still will not have an answer, in which case take the stones you have pulled from the bag and sleep with then under your pillow, together with a slip of paper with the question written on it. Here are some suggested stones and their interpretations:

Red: Red Jasper, Carnelian - Anger, conflict, aggression, passion, lust, energy

Pink: Rose Quartz, pink Tourmaline - Love, romance, friendship, relationships, self-respect

Orange: Amber, Citrine - Power, growth, success, joy, the God

Yellow: Tiger's eye, yellow Calcite - Thought, intellect, communication, creativity, self-control

Green: Aventurine, Malachite - Growth, fertility, work, money, messages, news

Blue: Sodalite, Lapis lazuli - Truth, wisdom, excess emotion, travel, the sea

Purple: Amethyst, Sugilite - Healing, peace, tranquillity, rest

Black: Obsidian, black Onyx - Concealment, silence, lies, the unknown

Whose Holiday Is It Anyway

Whose Holiday Is It Anyway
Whose Holiday is It, Anyway?

By Alex Miller-Mignone

It's almost that time again. Sleigh bells ring, are ya list'nin'? Here they come, thievin' Christians? A slight paraphrase.

One of the most difficult times of the year to be Pagan is December the twenty-fifth. And that's just not fair, because, like most Christian holidays, Christmas derives from decidedly pagan roots.

You name it, the Christians stole it. Oimelc? Try Candlemas. Summer Solstice? Ever hear of St. John's Day? Samhain? How about All Saints Day?

But the chief rip-off is December 25-the birth of Mithras, the Festival of the Sol Invictus, the peak of old Roman Saturnalia and Celtic Yule; in short, the Winter Solstice, Pagan New Year itself. It's hard to say whether the early Christians were simply poor astronomers, or if their choosing of Mithras' birthday for their own savior's nativity was an attempt to curry favor with the Roman Legions, who had a special friend in Mithras. At any rate, Christmas falls a few days after the actual Solstice, which is convenient for those of us with families of the Christian persuasion. Plenty of time to light the needfire and pass out the Solstice sacks before we troop home to trim the tree and stuff Christmas stockings.

It's not so much that I resent the Christian theft of one of the most sacred times of the pagan year; they have a right to celebrate what they want when they want, even if they choose nowadays to ignore their original intent to subvert pagan populations with their pseudo-syncretism. What still gets my knickers in a twist is that superior attitude, born doubtless out of 1500+ years of cultural dominance that says the whole thing is their idea.

Probably the worst aspect of the situation is the fact that, for most Christians, the deception is so removed from present circumstance and the cover-up so ingrained into modern society that their perpetuation of this holier-holiday-than-thine attitude is largely unconscious. Which of course means it's most impolite to respond with a kidney punch when you are wished a Merry Christmas. Yes, ultimately, I'd have to say it is my inability to deliver appropriate kidney punches which bothers me most.

The Christian secular sector is almost as annoying in its omnipresence as the sacred. My favorite reworking of the popular secular mythos is probably Pauline Campanelli's assertion (in The Wheel of the Year) that Santa's sleigh and eight reindeer is actually a representation of the Solar chariot and the eightfold solar year. Nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah-nyah.

Of course, breaking out of the Christian holiday mold isn't all that easy. I spent a few years conforming outwardly. I looked for cards that said, with the Jewish populace in mind, Season's Greetings or Happy Holidays. It still seemed too much like a sellout, however, so we suspended holiday cards for a few seasons, and now do our own Solstice cards on the computer.

I gave up saying Merry Christmas right away, but if someone did the dirty to me salutation-wise I would respond with a cheerful Same to you! Which, I must admit, often came out sounding like I had said, up yours!

The Christmas tree was the next to go, regrettably. It's a lovely custom, but you have to draw the line somewhere. Non-Pagan relatives and business associates would come to the house for the needfire buffet (we called it a `bonfire' and neglected to mention that after they left we'd be burning them in effigy) and say how lovely our Christmas tree was, with its unusual ornaments of Suns, Moons and Stars, pine cones and fruit. After about three years of near lockjaw from gritting out, thank you, but it's a Solstice bush, actually, we gave up the evergreen, choosing instead to decorate a large potted hibiscus which we had brought in from the garden to winter, and which was less susceptible to misinterpretation. (This year the hibiscus has outgrown its pot and has had to be tubbed, which makes it too large to bring in, so I guess we'll have to get even more creative.)

Christmas stockings have become Solstice sacks. Same principle, but it allows us to maintain a fun custom while affirming our pagan roots. We choose items that look as little like actual stockings as possible. (This has become easier with the proliferation of dollar stores, each crowded with seasonal bibelots like felt or woven pouches adorned with images of poinsettias, holly, or pine branches.) This year my house mate has taken up crocheting, so we will have mini sacks-within-the-sack for holding special items like crystals or jewelry.

A lot of what actually happens at Solstice is reminiscent of Christmases in my youth. My family's ethnic background is Pennsylvania Dutch (a kind of Amish without the insularity), and my own Solstice buffet is set with traditional foods such as roast turkey with bread and potato filling, dried corn, Brussels sprouts with bacon, candied sweet potatoes and desserts such as kiffels and Moravian sugar cake. We still trot out a few classics for the VCR, like The Bishop's Wife and Christmas in Connecticut (Hollywood is Hollywood, after all). A lot of the ornaments that will find their way to whatever will be our Solstice bush this year are family heirlooms. There are still some connections to my family's Christian roots.

In my youth there went up the hue and cry among the Fundamentalist community: Don't leave the `Christ' out of `Christmas'! I want to make it perfectly clear here that my quarrel is not, and has never been, with Jesus of Nazareth, whom I revere as a great teacher far ahead of his time, whose message of love and human capacity to express the divine has been either misunderstood or deliberately perverted by those claiming to represent him. As I read the gospels, and especially the Gnostic versions, what Jesus said was not simply I am God, but I am God, and so are you.

And here's the funny part. When you really look at it, what have the Christians actually done in overlaying their mythos onto the pagan infrastructure? In identifying the birth of Jesus with the Winter Solstice, they have only reaffirmed their savior in the same mold as the Holly King, Attis and Adonis, all images of the masculine polarity of the dying and resurrected Power which informs all life. And if we look into the color symbology of Christmas, we see an even stranger fact:

Jesus was the Christed One, the supreme image of perfected man, which is man made whole by the integration of all opposites, most basic of which, in the human condition, is the male/female polarity. In choosing red and green to symbolize this season, the early Christian fathers must surely have understood what they were doing. Red is the color of Mars, ultimate indicator of masculine energy, and green is the color of Venus, ultimate indicator of feminine energy. Opposites on the color wheel, opposites in human experience; no two colors could better express the blending and union of these basic energies with which Pagans daily strive.
